SCASD Annual K-12 Art Exhibition
Throughout January, the quality of the State College Area School District’s art program was on full display in Penn State’s HUB-Robeson Center.
The district’s annual K-12 art show showcased a variety of student artwork in the Robeson Gallery. Each of the district’s 18 art teachers selected up to 10 pieces for the show.
A public reception on Jan. 28 in the gallery capped the month-long exhibit.
“This year's K-12 art show at the HUB is visual evidence of the quality thinking dispositions that come from engaging in the design process throughout our SCASD art program,” said State High art teacher Danielle Crowe, who’s also the district’s art curriculum coordinator. “From first grade's experimentation with line and color in the back of the gallery through high school's expressive ceramic vessels in the rotunda, if you look closely you will see growth in young artists' abilities that extend far beyond making beautiful things.”
Crowe said the district’s Art and Design faculty is “very grateful” for the generosity of the university, and particularly that of the gallery staff led by Ann Shields, “for nearly two decades of hosting our student artwork in such a professional manor.”
“We hope that the show has inspired our student and community visitors toward continual growth as much as it inspires us as art educators,” Crowe said.
